George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations has said his team is probing a leaked phone conversation alleged to be between Wetangula and Dubai royal family over the fake gold scandal.

An audio shared widely on social media has a voice believed to be that of Senator Wetangula and he is heard being in a heated conversation with the “client” presumed to be from United Arab Emirates (UAE), demanding to know the status of what is to be believed as gold.

Wetangula has kept mum about the scandal and has not made any comment.

“My attention has been drawn to an audio clip making the rounds on social media, in which an apparent telephone conversation between two speakers, allegations are made suggesting that certain information had been conveyed or relayed to HE the President (Uhuru Kenyatta), former Prime Minister (Raila Odinga) and CS (Fred) Matiangi, and that a discussion had been held between the eminent personalities, ” Haji said in the statement.

DCI told Nation that Mr Wetangula is a person of interest and has been lined up to be questioned by detectives.

“He is a person of interest, and we shall be interrogating him and all others mentioned to determine their degree of involvement,” Mr Kinoti told Nation.
